HAIR CARE- CONDITIONERS

I'm not going to harp on about how cold it is, you know that it's winter and that our face's need extra moisturiser and body needs wrapping up with knited garments.
But how about your head?

Conditioner is just like face tonic water- people know it exists but do not always use it!

For me, conditioner is essential to a good head of hair.

My hair is natural, so this means that I have no weave or relaxer attached to my hair. I have dyed hair and because of this, the natural oils in my hair are eaten up quicker by the Chemicals in the dye, thus, making my hair thirsty for nutrients.
My first piece of advice is to condition the hair for hours before you wash it. I know this is not always achievable (as we have busy lives) but i would recommend it at least every 10 days.

Do a hot oil treatment- I reccomend John Freda's, especially for frizzy hair. Leave this on for 30minutes to an hour for optimum results.

Spikes Top 3 Hair Conditioners are:

- Tigi Rockaholic, living the dream conditioner £19.95p

- Aveda, Be curly Conditioner £14.70p

- Redken Extended Conditioner £12.35p

If you do not mind abit of mess and feel experimental, make your own hair conditioner.
Ingredients: Tree Tea Oil, Warm Olive Oil and Avocado Pear.

Mix these ingredients altogether in a plastic bowl with a spatula.
Massage through the scalp to the end of the hair shaft
If your hair is long enough, wrap your hair into a bun and leave a shower cap on for 1 hr.

The natural heat your temples will create a light hair steam.
The results are: lustrous healthy full bodied hair!

Enjoy!

  LASH DOWN!

Everyone concentrates on the top lashes for a several reasons.
The main one for me is that I hate the heroin chic smudged concealer look. It adds to bags under the eye and makes you look dirty!
And secondly, the fear of poking yourself in the eye with a mascara wand is enough to put any simpleton off.
Fear no more, I have a great glamorous solution, that will take a certain amount of sophistication and self trust.

Use false lashes only on the bottom lash! This will give you the baby doll ‘tiwggy’ look you’ve been longing for without the messy finish seen on Lindsay Lohan and Peaches Geldof (mushy liner and cakey mascara).

You’ll need to:

-    add a small amount of glue (buy the transparent one from PAKS cosmetics for £2.49p)
-    cut the lashes to the shape of your under eye- lid
-    press on and hold at both corners of the eye
-    Whoo hoo! You’re a catwalk icon!

The power of the lashes on the bottom will give your eyes instant star power and allow for a clean pale base on the eye lids with a thick black liner on top to finish.

I know, I’m good!

Spikes recommends:

- Screen Face Lashes £6.99 +
- Shu Uemera Lashes £12.99+
- PAKS Lashes £2.49

Look at the insert for visual. I did this look on a Wildsuga Model the Dark Eco Collection.

FILM NOIR BLACK LIPSTICK TREND 2009/10

Increasingly, fashion and beauty keep taking a U-turn and emulating lost trends of past, reviving them with current edge and a heritage of new school advances.
I keep finding myself reaching for my black eye liner and applying it onto my LIPS! I then stumbled across a brilliant cheap one in a 99p store in Muswell Hill and was shrieking with delight to the sales assistance, who clearly didn’t understand my enthusiasm. The Halloween section catered for my trend fix!

Angelica Houston rocked the power lip in 1990’s ‘Adam’s Family’ and the late beauty Aaliyah Houghton wore the shade during ‘Queen of the damned’ 2002.
Obviously the shade is associated with all things dark and grim, but I think the lip colour is so powerful and bold; it takes a very confident woman to wear it with pride and sophistication.

Most recently stars like sing sensation Rihanna and even X Factor’s Rachel sported the daring colour week 2’s live show- both two very confident ladies. Not to mention the likes of Lilly Allen and Kelly Osbourne who tap into the vamp and goth style giving them a not so cute but harder image.

There is a very film noir-feel about the dark lip. Back when films were produced only in black and white, a strong red lip colour would have appeared black giving us a sense of seeing this unique look pop up over the decades.

Finding a black lipstick is not a difficult as it used to be, so don’t feel you have to rummage through thrift stores or pound worlds to grab one.

Stockist are:

MAC- lipstick in Midnight Black from Style Black collection  £12
STARGAZER- Black Lipstick, online only £1.89p!
BOBBI BROWN- Port Lipstick £15 (Deep Purple)

I recently used Black lipstick on two photo shoots- see insert.

(male model- Nickque at NEVS, Portfolio shoot)
(female model- Kate Braithwaite at Casting Suite, Spikes Shoot)

Whether you’re a wannabe film star, singer, goth or trend- pusher, you need to have that black lipstick somewhere in your makeup kit. Gone on, you vamp!

TAMU IS REACHING FOR THE STARS!

In an industry were brands sink or swim, the anxiety of starting a new business is no easy task to overcome!
Afriyie Donkor, a psychology graduate used her African roots and love for beauty as the cornerstone of her new body care brand 'TAMU'. The main ingredient is Shea butter from her mothers village Gaoso in Ghana, Africa.

Afriye’s wonderful range is available to purchase online with a fully comprehensive history page and list of her superior ingredients and is also stocked at Waterloo Body Station and in Cherry Picked Boutique in Greenwich.

The ethos is simple: No parabens, no synthetics, no chemical, no animal testing and yes to 100% premium unrefined whipped Shea Butter and lush essentials oils.

My current cult favourite from TAMU is the Morrocan Rose senuos oil. I use it all over my face, body and hair after I swim. It locks in moisture and leaves a sophisticated holistic scent of nature.

Predecessors like The Body Shop and L'Occitane better watch out; this brand is a reputable competitior with sold out stock at Waterloo Bath Station and customers fighting over jars in Cherry Picked. Between us, i'd start expecting TAMU counters to pop up all over the UK by 2010!

Well- what are you waiting for? if you don't believe me, believe your own skin when it feasts on TAMU! (Click the word Beauty (at the top) to take you straight to the official online shopping site).
