FILM NOIR BLACK LIPSTICK TREND 2010

Increasingly, fashion and beauty keep taking a U-turn and emulating lost trends of past, reviving them with current edge and a heritage of new school advances.
I keep finding myself reaching for my black eye liner and applying it onto my LIPS! I then stumbled across a brilliant cheap one in a 99p store in Muswell Hill and was shrieking with delight to the sales assistance, who clearly didn’t understand my enthusiasm. The Halloween section catered for my trend fix!

Angelica Houston rocked the power lip in 1990’s ‘Adam’s Family’ and the late beauty Aaliyah Houghton wore the shade during ‘Queen of the damned’ 2002.
Obviously the shade is associated with all things dark and grim, but I think the lip colour is so powerful and bold; it takes a very confident woman to wear it with pride and sophistication.

Most recently stars like sing sensation Rihanna and even X Factor’s Rachel sported the daring colour week 2’s live show- both two very confident ladies. Not to mention the likes of Lilly Allen and Kelly Osbourne who tap into the vamp and goth style giving them a not so cute but harder image.

There is a very film noir-feel about the dark lip. Back when films were produced only in black and white, a strong red lip colour would have appeared black giving us a sense of seeing this unique look pop up over the decades.

Finding a black lipstick is not a difficult as it used to be, so don’t feel you have to rummage through thrift stores or pound worlds to grab one.

Stockist are:

MAC- lipstick in Midnight Black from Style Black collection  £12
STARGAZER- Black Lipstick, online only £1.89p!

Whether you’re a wannabe film star, singer, goth or trend- pusher, you need to have that black lipstick somewhere in your makeup kit. Gone on, you vamp!
