ALL I WANT FOR CHRISTMAS IS YOU!

Personally - I think we try too hard. Why are we sitting around a table of people, and pretending to be having an interesting conversation 'just because it is Christmas'!? No wonder most divorces happen in January!
So like with fashion, why do we tend to think that red, glitter and gold should be the attire for the festive season? We have all done it I am sure. After all, a cute Santa hat for the pub is not that bad, especially not after some wine… But the next day when the confrontation comes in a form of a facebook tag you realize table dancing in a red dress Santa hat combo was not such a good idea after all.
Dressing up for Christmas can be compared to an extended Halloween. The good thing about Halloween however, is that it is limited to one day and one night only. (despite ASDA bringing out stock since August) While at Christmas we have to dress for endless parties, most of them non-fabulous. It is the first time I think that ‘party’ stops being exciting and a good thing but instead is associated with boredom, over drunkenness and bad fashion choices.

At New Years Eve things do tend to get a little bit better, although glitter is definitely still kept at a maximum (have to match the fireworks of course!) People tend to get excited about New Years Eve. “Tonight will be the best party” “Tonight I will meet the love of my life” I have been there, hey… I secretly still hope that New Years Eve will indeed be fantastic. So in the hope of kissing somebody at the stroke of Midnight underneath a shower of fireworks, with caked mascara - glitter eyelashes, people bring out the sexy outfit. Often too short, too tight, too gold!?

How about this year for Christmas we just remain ourselves, the person you dress like the rest of the 330 days of the year. And if you do love Christmas and the Festive season bring some sparkle with a hint of… red lips… red nails… gold nails?! (Chanel does a great shade) gold shoes…

Start the New Year - New You early, and dare to not conform, do not over drink, do not wear ridiculous outfits, do not over eat!?
After so many failings throughout the years, of the above mentioned faux-pas I have learned that around Christmas the best policy is to keep it simple. Sure it is easy to get carried away. That is what Hallmark and the rest of the shopping industry wants. But in the end nobody wants to BE the Christmas tree.

Instead bring life into a black pencil skirt and a crisp white ruffled shirt. Do sexy red lips, perfectly polished nails, add a beautiful necklace and fabulous sparkly shoes - It is all you need to survive the festive season. In December I have to agree less really is more.
Merry Christmas and A Happy New Year!!!

PS secretly very much hoping for that fireworks kiss ;)

HOT TREND OF THE WEEK: VELVET

It's something I never thought I would see in fashion again, least not in my lifetime. But velvet is a must have this season, and we all need to invest in a velvet piece to update our wardrobes for the new year.
The perfect place to start is with an LBD- we all own one, it’s a signature wardrobe piece, and what better way to branch into velvet than by incorporating the two. This is a perfect way.
If you are unsure of velvet or are not brave enough for different texturing, then why not opt for a velvet blazer or some velvet accessories, a clutch perhaps.
Velvet is great and adds a bit of luxury to an outfit, but don’t overdo it or do you risk ruining the look. Opt for plain velvet as opposed to patterned and stick to colours you like and know.
Be a velvet vamp over the festive period!

FASHION PROFILE: TERRY RICHARDSON

Raw, provocative, dirty, uncensored, real, and very very fashionable…
I am talking about the photographs of Terry Richardson.
Born in 1965, New York, Terry Richardson is the son of fashion photographer Bob Richardson.
He has become one of the most recognizable styles in the fashion industry. One would be surprised that almost every designer and editorial uses him. Terry Richardson has done campaigns for Gucci, Sisley, Miu Miu, Chloe, Jimmy Choo, H&M and his editorial work has appeared in magazines such as French Vogue, British Vogue, i-D, GQ, Harper's Bazaar and Purple.  And this is only a tiny fragment of all the work he has done.

He has become an inspiration to “keep it real”- literally. The full frontal photographs are in real detail, and the bright flash contributes to highly saturated images. Because of their non-stylized nature they become iconic.
I call it dirty fashion. It's so gritty it's cool.

HOT SHOE TREND: PUMP UP THE VOLUME!

Had enough of feeling like you’ve walked to the end of the earth and back in those fantastic skyscraper heels? Whoever said beauty wasn’t painful was deluded right?
Well never you fear fashionistas, because the pump is all the rage right now, so dump those 6inches and pump it up with soft, dainty pumps that wont kill your feet!
Nab some embellished pumps, velvet and detailed. Studding is also great as its a big trend in all accessories this season so you cant go wrong. Laced pumps also look fantastic and sophisticated and work well with the office look.
Whichever your choice there are plenty of diversions from those skyscrapers this party season so pump it up!

TRENCHCOAT: KEY FASHION TREND

It’s the season to be wrapping up but who says you can’t keep warm in the winter and at the same time inject a bit of fun in the sun to your winter attire?

Your outerwear and winter coat needn’t be drab to match the weather. Spice it up a bit with colour pop coats, and nail the colour trends at the same time.

Bright purple hues, pinks, oranges, greens and yellows look great as outerwear on top of an LBD or work outfit. Get yourself noticed and update your collection at the same time.

Duffle trench coats, and macs are must haves in coat trends and this is a trend that will never fade! So don’t let your wardrobe fade in colour with the winter blues and splash a little sunshine with bright but brilliant trenchcoat!

MUST HAVE: CRUISE COLLECTIONS!

It is difficult to imagine shopping for spring fashion in December. The wind is blowing and it is raining sideways, you are trying to hurry home with a half broken umbrella. If you are one of those lucky enough to travel to warmer climate this Christmas it can be daunting to switch from thick winter jumpers into a light silky chiffon wardrobe!
Cruise collections have only become really big in the last couple of years. They offer a taste of what we can expect from the s/s shows, and are very convenient if one has the luxury of getting away in winter.

The main trend for the cruise collections is definitely opulent strong colour, as seen in Dior, Badgley Mischka, and Oscar de la Renta. Chanel offered a classic choice of black and white. Calvin Klein was minimalistic in rich materials in golden beige and white, and varieties of HOT red from Michael Kors.
If you feel even more confused just opt for a classic white dress and spice it up with some gold accessories, and a fashionable amount of bronzing powder.
Have fun flaunting you pre-spring wardrobe if you are traveling, if not start planning now for your next holiday. It might seem too far away but it might just give you that inspiration and boost needed during the long cold winter months.
